Well, the good news is that democracy has held on in the US by the skin of its teeth. But those teeth are weaker and more brittle than ever. Well, maybe not ever. The Civil War posed quite the threat. Be that as it may, looking to the future, we’ll never evolve to a better state of consciousness for all of humanity until enough of the plodding herd shift their myopic focus from egomaniacal “leaders” to those who are sincerely invested in improving mankind and the planet upon which it exists. Call me Pollyanna. It won’t be the first time. Or hopefully the last.
What troubles me most is the normalization of lies, defamation, and unmitigated hate into the fabric of our culture. Apparently, in today’s world, it’s okay to hate your neighbor, wielding lies and collusion to marginalize and destroy your perceived enemies, all to achieve your self-aggrandizing goals. Whether it’s Speaker of the House or leader of a speck of a community far from home. The liars still lie with impunity. The haters still hate with approval. The traitors still foment rebellion. And revenge and retribution are the accepted weapons of submission.
The world has become a far less amicable place because of the foibles and flaws of those few who find themselves in a position to inflict their will upon others. Most are afflicted with an insatiable ego. Like a brown-skinned immigrant boy who was bullied by the dominant culture as a child and needs to exert his superiority over others. Or some wannabe world leader who spent decades chasing his dream and lacks the cajones to speak truth to power to help all people, instead of promoting his personal agenda. A spoiled brat with filthy rich parents who bankrolled his demonic schemes to get rich at the expense of the less fortunate. Interestingly, the common denominator in most is a streak of malignant narcissism. Empathy has never been a tool in their toolbox.
So the bullies will continue to bully. The liars will bask in the glorification of their chosen flock, truth be damned. The mute will sigh a huge sigh of relief that they dodged yet another bullet of accountability.
K tells me that it is not realistic to expect justice in this world, in any way, shape, or form. So be it. But I won’t stop walking my talk in my own, minuscule and insignificant way…working toward a world where compassion and collaborative communication rule the day, one person at a time, with love as the primary motivator. I believe in the ultimate good of the universe. Ojála…🙏
