Underpaintings…

Where does the time go…an all too familiar yet true refrain. I am humbled and amazed that so many people continue to read my blog, even when I take such long hiatuses. Thank you. Really, thank you. It inspires me to continue to share my journey, my thoughts, my diet and regimen, my emotional evolution, my post-cancer chapter in all its good and ugly nuances, in the outside chance that someone, somewhere may find a kernal of truth, a glimmer of an epiphany, a shred of hope.

Soooo, where to begin. I have proven to myself the age-old adage that travel is most definitely a superfood for the soul.  Three weeks in Europe was rejuvenating. A week in castle-centric Germany, a week in hohum Holland and a week in Inspirational Ireland. Obviously Ireland was by far my favorite of the three, probably in part because I am, of course, mostly Irish with a little Scotch and Welsh thrown in. We made new friends, released a few who were not ours to lose, and managed to learn many lessons about ourselves along the way. Because at the end of the day, learning and growing to become the people we are striving to be is the only path we are focused on. In my daily meditations I always take time to release all that no longer serves my highest light. Less negative energy to have to metastisize…

About that diet…did I mention I am now a total vegan, at least 98% of the time, if I’m going to be completely honest:)  We were vegetarians/pescatarians in Europe, because animal-base food is the rule there. But once we got “home” to Atenas, it’s been a whole food, plant-based diet all the way. It’s a good thing that I really enjoy cooking and experiencing new culinary flavors. Did I mention how much time you have to spend washing and chopping? All for a good cause – our health and well-being not to mention the preservation of the planet if I choose to wax geo-political – but enough already with the chop, chop, chop 🙂 Thank goodness that wine is a plant-based food.

So, I am establishing a rhythm here in CR. Again. Building the foundation, mixing the colors and applying the strokes of the underpainting, to set the tone and various hues for what comes next. As I prepare the canvases of my next oeurvres, I have a new appreciation for the vital importance of underpainting. The picture on this post is one of my new underpaintings…Karl (formerly known as Harold and/or H) loves it as is…but it is just the first layer of a multi-dimensional and complex study of a flower. That is how I perceive life now…fragile yet sturdy, especially when I invest the time and energy to build a foundation based on love, forgiveness and respect. Full of vibrant energy and explosive colors that leap off the page. We are human and fallible, but we have the ability to choose the energy we send out and receive. As a survivor, I want to take responsibility for all that I ingest, process and release into the universe. Physically, emotionally and spiritually. My oils are calling out, so I must listen…Namaste.
