Okay, that’s a lot to expound upon in a very limited time/space frame. Angels are the easiest to address, and deserve repeated and ongoing accolades of thanks and gratitude ad infinitum, for now and all time. I have been blessed with many angels in my life, some that I have recognized and probably many more that I did not. But since I have been on this very special journey where my mortality has become a headlining event, I am extremely sensitive (and appreciative) to those who have come to me in support and love. And, not to dwell on the negative, I have been equally surprised at how many failed to show up in any way, shape or form whom I expected to be there with bells on. Bless them and love them and move on.
My latest angel has appeared to motivate and encourage my painterly pursuits…without her I would have tossed my brushes in the nearest trash can and chosen to believe the naysayers who said I had no talent. From pre-school teachers right on up to my latest “seniors class”. An accomplished artist in her own right (www.dlgblack.com), Diane Black has gently guided, taught and mentored me to the point where I am actually, believe it or not, ready to sign my first painting! Which means (to those of us new to this world) that I have no more changes, deletions and/or additions to make to this painting. Who knew what hard work it is to get a picture “right”. At least in the artist’s POV. And we have chosen a path where there is much joy and laughter along the way. with thanks, love and gratitude…
Which brings me to my latest heroine, of whom I have written about in the past. Kudos to Angelina Jolie (herself an angel for us to appreciate) for once again going public with her latest surgery to prevent the high probablility of contracting uteran cancer. She has been much maligned by the Hollywood community, which hurts my sense of fairness and justice. Her latest movie, which she directed, was dissed and dismissed with one of the shortest runs known for such a high budget movie. I finally got to see it on pay per view this week. It was a monumental story, well-told with amazing but brutal effects showcasing man’s inhumanity to man (again). My critique, as a writer, was that she neglected the character development aspect of the story in her efforts to be true to the hero she was showcasing with such love and admiration. What a great effort, and worthy enough that the Pope requested a screening. And not to gush on and on about her, but her global humanitarian efforts are staggering. Queen Elizabeth II made Angelina an honorary dame for her campaign to end the scourge of sexual violence in war zones. And yet the pettyness and jealousies of her Hollywood colleagues continue to rob her of her rightful due. She does look like an angel in the wedding dress her children designed, n’est-ce pas?
And finally, a footnote about the fall of one of my favorite paladins in the beauty industry. Mostly because I touted the benefits and excellence of his hair products in more than one past post. So, in the interests of full disclosure, I learned in the beauty parlor today that Wen hair products are the subject of a class action for making some women’s hair fall out in huge chunks. Need I say more?!? Who can take the chance?! Not I! Off to the health food store tomorrow for some new shampoo.
