This is for all you ladies out there who may be in the dark (as I was) about various breast and brassiere issues on this side of recovery. First of all, if you had a lumpectomy, your affected breast will continue to shrink (and swell and shrink and swell) post treatment, with the long term result of shrinking…hmmm. It will also be tender off and on and off and on for who knows, forever?
And here’s a real kicker…we need to wear supportive bras when not asleep. Bye bye Genie bra…Maryanne, my new nurse practitioner, asked me when the last time was that I’d had an official, professional bra fitting. Let me think. Thirty years? More? So, this weekend I am going to go to a store with a professional bra fitter in the fitting room. Do they even exist? I guess I’ll find out. I truly doubt that I will find a suitable Maidenform for $1.59, however.
And one final post script about my on-going issues with baby fine, super thin hair growth. Maryanne said my hair looked great, given my particular chemo cocktail and duration of treatment. Oh joy. Given time, who knows, she said, you may see some improvement. Of course, no guarantees and no timelines can be offered. H tells me to shave my hair off cuz he likes my bald head, but really? I think not. I’ll just continue to count my blessings and send out positive energy to all those in need of a hug.
