Pigheadedness…

…is defined as stupid obstinance.  With added emphasis on STUPID.  A huge disservice to pigs, no doubt, but it seems to be a universally accepted simile for people who are intransigent, unyielding and obdurate for their own personal agendas, to the detriment of peace, harmony and the welfare of others.

Yes, it’s Day 4 (and counting) of the US Government Shut Down.  A lot of harsh words are being slung back and forth across the aisles for the benefit of the cameras, but no one is seriously sitting down to communicate with each other to reach an acceptable compromise for the greater good of all.  Which is the only way that any dispute/conflict can ever be resolved amongst and between us humanoids.  Whether it’s Obamacare and the Debt Ceiling, or a familial meltdown because the Christmas roast was ruined, or a silly catfight among girlfriends, what is becoming of our culture?  Of our race?

I have a lot more time to contemplate such ponderous thoughts as I recover from chemotherapy.  We have advanced in so many areas as a race, and yet, it seems we have degenerated terribly where it counts most.  In matters of the heart.  Just look at the most recent headlines:  chemical weapons deployed in Syria, centuries-old wars still raging in the Middle East, terrorism in our schools and shopping malls, lethal road rage on our highways.  I used to be an avid activist, passionate to right the wrongs of the world, from death squads in Central America to homeless children on our urban streets to poverty on the Reservations.

I am disabused of such noble ambitions now, at least on a global scale. I realize that I can only strive to be the person I would like to be.  I cannot change anyone else on this planet except for myself.  I cannot force anyone to communicate, forgive and allow love to transcend all if they do not have those sentiments in their hearts.  It’s the old “leading a horse to water” adage…I am just so saddened that we do not seem to be evolving as a race to a higher place where we can co-exist and support one another with love in our hearts despite our differences, be it religious, financial, racial, political or cultural.  Or whatever.  Call me Pollyanna, but that’s the world I choose to live in, and the people I want to share my space with for whatever time I have left on Earth.

I pray for the power of Divine Love to bless, uplift and heal all on Earth.  Love and light.
