The flooding in Colorado is so monumental, it is almost beyond belief, and is now being called The Hundred Year Flood. Never have I heard of schools, businesses and roads being closed due to RAIN in Denver. Snow, yes. But rain?!
Lives have been lost, homes destroyed and businesses decimated. Most of those suffering losses won’t have flood insurance. Why would you? Especially if you live up in the mountains, like Estes Park…that’s the high country, for heavens sake. Just as we are all clawing our way out of the depths of the economic depression hoisted upon us in the last five years, a natural catastrophe hits. Admittedly, it’s easier to accept and recover from a natural disaster than it is from a financial fraud perpetrated upon the innocent by corrupt and greed-inspired Wall Streeters. Nonetheless, hundreds, even thousands of lives are being destroyed as we watch the live news feeds of the raging, roiling waters.
On the lighter side of this disaster, we were wakened before 6am this morning by a call from one of our Production Managers (whose mother’s B&B, BTW, was just destroyed in Estes Park). He had just received a call from Bill Cosby hoping against hope that his show in Denver on Saturday would be postponed or cancelled. Bill’s wife had heard on the news that Obama had declared CO a disaster area, so surely the show would NOT go on. Our PM told Bill that that was not our call…that the venue/producer had to make that decision. An hour later the word came down that yes, the show must go on. Indeed. So our crew is now scrambling to get to the shop, load the trucks and find a way to drive to the venue, when the major highways and thoroughfares are closed. Gotta love show biz!
This is definitely a Count Your Blessings opportunity. I have survived the last year and am cancer free. I am blessed with a loving husband and a comfortable home (actually two right now, but hopefully not for long). Our home in Franktown has survived this most recent threat. Another blessing. So as I continue to count my blessings, I will send love and healing energies to those who are suffering in CO. Love and light…
